Organisations & Groups

St. John's has a small but effective choir which helps with the worship at the Sung Mass and other major festivals. We are affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. If you are interested in joining, whatever your age please speak to our Organist and Director of Music, Simon Worley on Sunday mornings either before the service, when we usually have a practice at 9.15 or afterwards over coffee in the hall. Yoou can also email Simon by clicking on the link under his name.

Choir Practice is on Friday evenings at 7pm in the hall.

Children from the age of 3 years old are invited to take part in our group during the service. The group start off by being with their parents at the start of the service and then move through to the hall. Our leaders have a lot of experience with working with this age group and are able to help even the shyest of them to take a full and active part. They then return to the service in time for the communion.

We have a number of home meetings which occur at different venues during the week and discuss a variety of topics. Please speak to our Rector or Reader, if you are interested in joining one.

On Saturday mornings we have coffee and refreshments available in the Parish hall. Come in and rest your weary legs when shopping in the city centre and take the opportunity to have a look around our beautiful church.

Talking Space is a new initiative which aims to extend the Church's pastoral care to those who use the Pubs and Night Clubs in the area around St. John's and the  Sky Dome.

From 12 midnight to 4am each Saturday, we provide free hot drinks and a place where  young people from the Night Clubs can come after a night out.  Members from different churches have received training in listening skills and provide a a service where people can talk about any issue they wish. The aim is not evangelise or convert people but merely to share with them some of Jesus' love.

The scheme has been running since September 2004 and has proved very popular. Contact has been made with a lot of people who would not normally have entered a church and police have reported that the area is much safer due to our presence.

Please pray for all those who take part and those whom we meet.
