Prayer
for God's Help
(Augustine
of Hippo)
O
God, from whom to be turned is to fall,
to
whom to be turned to is to rise,
and
with whom to stand is to abide for ever;
grant
us in all our duties your help,
in
all our perplexities your guidance,
in
all our dangers your protection,
and
in all our sorrows your peace,
through
Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen
Day
by Day
(Richard
of Chichester)
Thanks
be to thee,
Lord
Jesus Christ,
for
all the benefits
which
thou hast won for us,
for
all the pains and insults
which
thou hast borne for us.
O
most merciful Redeemer,
Friend
and Brother,
may
we know thee more clearly,
love
thee more dearly
and
follow thee more nearly,
day
by day
Instrument
of Your Peace
(Francis
of Assisi)
Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace.
Where
is hatred, let me sow low,
where
there is injury, pardon,
Where
there is doubt, faith
Where
there is despair, hope,
Where
there is darkness, light,
Where
there is sadness, joy.
O
Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
not
so much to be understood as to understand,
not
so much to be loved, as to love;
for
it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it
is in dying, that we awake to eternal life.
Simplicity
and Joy
(From
the rule of Taize)
O
Lord Jesus Christ, help us to maintain ourselves in simplicity and in joy, the
joy of the merciful, the joy of brotherly love. Grant that, renouncing
henceforth all thought of looking back, and joyful with infinite gratitude, we
may never fear to precede the dawn, to praise and bless and sing to Christ our
Lord.
